Virtualization is a process wherein one physical server is made to act as though it has multiple ‘Virtual Machines (VMs)’ hosted on it. Though these virtual machines appear to the outside user as separate and distinct server computers, they are in fact all running on the same hardware through the use of software known as a Hypervisor. In many environments, Virtualization can help save money in a number of ways. - Consolidating otherwise unused resources: Many servers spend much of their time idle. By pooling the resources via virtualization, you can put the otherwise idle time of the processor to work instead of running applications on separate physical machines.
- Energy usage: Running multiple virtual machines on one physical server reduces power consumption and heat dissipation, saving your company money in electrical and air conditioning bills.
- Reduced administration: Deploying additional servers is very easy and can be done in a matter of minutes.
The following are some of the Virtualizaton products that we service and/or install for our customers:
- Citrix XenServer - A great fit for small business with less than 75 users that want to take full advantage of features of Microsoft products like Exchange and SQL Server.
- Microsoft Hyper-V
- VMWare
Is virtualization right for your company? We’ll be happy to evaluate your environment and help you make a decision that will fit your needs and your budget.
